Elvis Presley, Our Stop At Graceland.
“A Short Visit With The King,, Elvis Presley”
For the past couple of years I have been putting off some family business that involved traveling through the Southern states. When I finally made the commitment to go, I explained the business to my 22 year old son. He agreed that it was a good idea and the plan was set into place. A few days before we were scheduled to leave, my son approached me with a request. Could we make a stop along the way?
Not knowing what he had in mind, I asked, “Where ?”
He said, “I’d like to see Graceland.”
Now, for the record, I am an Elvis fan, but never really wanted or felt the need to visit the home of Elvis Presley, Graceland. I easily rank Elvis solidly in the top “3” of all time, when it comes to musicians. I also know that my son is a bigger fan of Elvis than I am. Most all of Elvis’s songs are on his iPhone. Knowing that the business trip would be a lot of time on the road (we drove 2800 miles in 7 days) and the both of us would have to get along, I consented to the 2 day stop at Graceland.
Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley
We booked a room for two days at “The Guest House at Graceland”. I’m so glad that we did, as the rooms were Fantastic! They were beautiful, clean and the price was better than expected. Secured parking on the property, dining and transport to Graceland provided also. Entertainment in the evenings, after a day at Graceland. All the staff were polite and more than helpful.
For all you young people under 40, this is not a photo of Michael Jackson !
Here are some photos that we took at Graceland
The Graceland Mansion was very interesting and brought back a few memories of the styles that we lived with in the 60’s and 70’s.
But to me the highlight of the experience were the exhibits that documented, so completely, the life of Elvis Presley. The Career Museum, the Auto Museum and of course the personal jet of Elvis named the “Lisa Marie”.
You may think that you know a lot about the man, but unless you have seen Graceland firsthand, you cannot fully understand the real Elvis Presley.
“Eat Your Heart Out, Lady Gaga !”
Full Disclosure Here;
I’m a 61 year old that loves Lady Gaga’s music; I also enjoy the music of Alex & Sierra, Ariana Grande(when she’s not licking donuts), Harry Styles, Jackie Evancho, Katy Perry(a few of her songs), Sarah Brightman, Jacob Whitesides and Zayn to name a few.
“Don’t hate me, my peers, my music taste has been influenced by my 25-year-old son.”
There was more to Elvis than just a great voice.
Elvis had the ability to relate to a very young audience, while maintaining an old school attitude. You see, Elvis never forgot where he came from.
Elvis Presley placed his career to the side and served his Country.
Elvis Presley served in the United States Army, active from March 24th, 1958 to March 5th, 1960. He was discharged from the Army Reserve on March 23rd, 1964.
Thanks to all of you for listening and a special thanks to my son for suggesting this experience.
I now have a new # 1 musician!
