Read MoreIn April of 1865, Charles J. Colchester, a shady character of a man, met Abraham Lincoln and warned him that his life was in danger; a few days later Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was shot in the head. Charles J. Colchester was a friend of John Wilkes Booth.
Lincoln’s Secretaries, John G. Nicolay and John Hay commented on the incident; “But he had himself so sane a mind and a heart so kindly, even to his enemies, that it was hard for him to believe in a political hatred so deadly as to lead to murder.”
